Someday My Prince Will Come...
How Purity Culture and Twin Flames Universe are Two Sides of the Same Coin
“Maybe he’s your twin flame!” my friend said to me.
Puzzled, I asked her what a twin flame was. She explained to me that a twin flame was a person who was even deeper than your soul mate–it’s essentially your other half, an intense soul connection.
I couldn’t deny, what I was experiencing was unlike anything else I had ever felt before. It felt divine, like being known on some of the deepest levels, instantly. The ‘soul connection’ characteristic rang true and I wondered if my friend might be right.
It’s likely I’ll never know the answer to that question since shortly after that conversation, the person I had told my friend about ghosted me. It was sad and confusing. Truthfully, it took me a long time to get over. Even if he wasn’t my twin flame, he is someone that was special to me.
A couple months ago I heard about a new docu-series on Amazon Prime: Desperately Seeking Soulmate - Escaping Twin Flames Universe. The documentary was inspired by journalist Alice Hines, who’s investigation into this group produced an article and a lot of buzz. The subjects of this documentary and article were Jeff and Shaleia Ayan, the creators of Twin Flames Universe. Their claim to fame and the foundation for their business is that they are twin flames and wanted to help others find their twin flames.
What started out as videos and educational material has now grown into, what I believe to be, a cult. Just a few months before Hines’ article was published, another journalist, Sarah Berman, published a couple articles on Vice shedding more light to the group and what the participants in the group endured. Her investigation was at the heart of the new Netflix docu-series: Escaping Twin Flames that just released a couple days ago.
For a more detailed, and heartbreaking, look at what happened inside this group, I would encourage you to watch one of both of these docu-series. Both of them go in depth regarding the teachings and practices of an extremely high control group and the survivors of the group leaders. I was struck, many times, at the similarities between the Twin Flames Universe (TFU) group and many cults and high control religions.
As I have watched these docu-series’ though, what I’ve been struck with is how similar the tenants of Twin Flames Universe are with purity culture.
Let me explain…
